I shot this wet-headed, Black-crested Titmouse around 9:00am one morning after heavy thunderstorms the night before.

I've called em' "A Little Nutty" because he has dropped his nut after I startled him..He was very close, just at my inside range for the lens.

He loves those nuts, every size. He can even handle a shelled peanut, no problem. Very quick, agile, energetic and always busy with his task..

It's a full time job being a nut case.
I should know ;-}}

YOU CAN SEE AN INFLIGHT ATTEMPT OF THIS TITMOUSE WITH PEANUT, IN THE WORKSHOP.

Interesting Facts:

The Black-crested Titmouse has an alarm call that is a loud scold that fades away, causing predators to think they are fleeing while they actually stay safely hidden nearby.

To eat acorns, they will hold them with their feet and pound them open with their bills.

They will eat snow when liquid water is not available.

A group of titmice are collectively known as "a banditry of titmice", and a "dissimulation of titmice."

Thanx for lookin'

Hello Howard,
This is an outstanding photo of a beautiful bird.Great POV and composition.
Well Done.

Hola
Preciosa captura de este pajarillo tan gracioso.
El detalle es magnífico.
Como defecto destacaría que es una pena que el cuerpo y la cabeza del pajarío hayan quedado en sombra.
Saludos
Jacobo

Great shot Howard,
When I first clicked on your photo I thought man, this little guy looks like he went through a ringer. I then read your notes and found out why he looks so ruffed up.
Nice sharp image with good natural colours and very informative notes.
Ron

I have to laugh a bit...as my wife was just an hour ago talking to me about some notes she noticed in my mothers notebook and the fantastic discovery of this same bird which they only noted but did not photo...how unusual...well the V and the haircut on the bird make a real fine pattern combinations....it was the V that stood right out....eye catching...I reckon it is what adverts are made of because it WORKS!
Bob

Howard,

A rough day for that titmouse...
First the storm, and then, losing his nut.
You caught a wonderful expression on his face.
Great POV and pose of this cute bird.
TFS. : )

Hi Howard,
A funny capture of this beautiful titmouse's frontal POV. Looks very funny to me. Excellent composition and sharp details. I also liked the flying version in the WS. Thanks a lot for sharing.

Hello Howard,
Excellent photo of this Titmouse with a perfect sharp focus on the head. Beautiful natural colours. Great composition, DOF and POV.
Regards,
Peter

Hi Howard,

I take a look at the WS. Man, what a heavy load for such a small bird!! I love the POV and composition. This bird sitting into two V branches. Very nice. The deatils are as usual. Amazing. Take for instance a quick look to here haircut. You can see the bad weather in here haircut (wet) The BG colour even makes it more outstanding. Thanks. have a nice day and TFS BOB

Hello Howard,

What an excellent capture of this cute bird. Superb composition. Good sharpness. Great natural colours.
Cheers,
Mariki

The V shaped perch provides a natural frame to this fantastic capture of a wet Titmouse, Howard.
The image is immaculate in every respect.
Thanks for sharing it and best regards.
Ram

Nice tit (obviously not a banditry...). Beautiful compo, great details, too. It's interesting to me that usually a brighter bg is a distraction, but it really isn't the case here. I'm trying to study how you got away with it. Certainly the DoF helps, and maybe the light green leaves aren't that much lighter. Hmm, still more for me to learn.

Hi Howard,
Excellent shot of this cute Titmouse in a fine pose on that 'V' shaped branch. Looks startled indeed after droping the nut. Very neat and sharp image with nice colours and perfect lighting. Excellent POV and composition. Kudos.

Molto bella l'immagine in WS. Grazie e complimenti. Ciao Maurizio

Excellent capture of this Titmouse from close range :-D
A very good POV and composition.
Incredibly detailed.
Nice lighting and colours.
Great DOF.
The WS posting is great too! Am I right in believing that it's speared the Peanut with its beak?

Very well done!

Hello Howard,
A funny little fellow, captured in the great pose!
The expression is well conveyed, it'd like he is saying "...why did you do that?"...
The plumage seems to be in a bit of disorder, but cute he is!

I also like to take this opportunity to thank you for support and advice!
It has been great and I have learned a lot through the many fine presentations in TrekNature!

Hi Howard,

Just got back from Colorado getting my fix for Green, water, and Robins. I've missed so much on TN. I have only seen a Titmouse in pictures. This one is adorable perched in the angle of the branches. Wonderful colors and details - you captured his personality perfectly.

Jane

howard - hi :) Interesting bird, almost a mowhawk going on with it's feathers! I like the way you focused on the head and the rest on the bird went out of focus! Good composition and clarity! Well done!

Yes, this is one agile bird you have here Howard. I really like that wet look, quite like a gel-work on that tuft of hair on the head. Looks a bit startled the fella, after you made him drop his nut. The pose you have captured sure is unusual and the beautiful BG you have used adds to the drama.
Thanks for sharing

Hi Howard,
I like those birds so much but I don't see them often, they are rare here... When I see them, they are always hiding or never stop moving and I can't take a decent shot of them... This is a superb capture with great details and exposure. I should try giving them peanuts too but I guess that I'll have a Blue Jay's invasion instead :) Keep well!

Hello Howard,
After seeing the picture in the WS, I think you have named it right.:)
Nice pose captured here with a startled expression on its face. It's harirdo reminds me of those ads we see here in our TV, where they offer a new wet set look. If they see your bird, they will definitely appoint him as their new model.Anyway I enjoyed this picture and thenotes.
TFS & Regards,
Smitha.
