Texas Dandelion, Smallflower Desert-chicory.

Captured early today with morning light, around 8:00am.

Pyrrhopappus pauciflorus
Family : Asteraceae
Longevity : Annual
Origin : Native
Season : Cool

Manystem False Dandelion is found growing in calcareous soils of the Edwards Plateau and South Texas Plains and can reach a height of 6 to 18 inches. The stem has small matted hairs and a milky latex when cut. The leaves are crowded at the base and are 3 to 8 inches long with margins that can be lobed, toothed or entire. The flowers consist of only ray flowers that are yellow and toothed at the end. The anther tubes are black to dark purple and very distinctive. Manystem False Dandelion blooms from March to June. The leaves and stems are eaten by white-tailed deer and cattle, while the seeds are eaten by Rio Grande turkeys.

Hi Howard,

A new flower for me - and it is a very pretty one. I love the composition with the pair and the stems and leaves. The yellow is beautiful against the dark background. The details are nice and sharp - lovely shape to the petals.

Hi Howard,

Your photo can be a good example of mastering the light. I am impressed by the way you managed the morning light rendering nice light shadows which creat a nice feeling of depth. The image is very clear rendering well the texture of the petals which is not an easy thing with yellow color flowers. Very nice clear details of the brown stamins makes a good contrast with the petals.

Congratulations,
Cristian

I didn't know about this flower Howard. The toothed petals look the same as the common dandelion, but the whole flower is a flatter version and even prettier.
Well composed image MF

Hello Howard,
the Texas Dandelion perfectly presented both in blossom and with ripe fruits in a very clear and well balanced artistical way.
Magnificently highlighted very fragile looking blossoms that seem to be radiating like a pair of suns.
Thank you! With best regards,
Peter

Hello Howard,
Superb capture of the Small-flowered Desert Chicory flowers in a fine vertical composition. I like the dark bokeh and the fine ambient light management.
I see that the scientific species name is pauciflorus meaning that each plant has only a few flowers, perhaps a max. of two! :)
TFS this beauty,
Have a good weekend,
Ivan

Hello Howard,
How nice to see some flowers from your end!!
Excellent capture in wonderful colours. The shape of the flowers certainly reminds me of our blue Common Chicory! They look very good against the dark green background. I like your composition very much!
Many thanks and regards, Ulla
