Hi Howard!

The exposure settings explain how it is possible to get such a sharp and clear picture of a flying butterfly. This picture simply is superb and the perfect example of the incredible technical possibilities a modern equipement offers to a good photographer. Congratulations for this magnificent, so colourful picture!

Kind regards

Markus

Super capture Howard,
I remember another shot of a butterfly that you posted a long while ago that was captured in-flight like this one. The reason I remember it so vividly is that I thought I would like to try and capture a shot similar. Well.......I tried and tried many times this past summer and didn't have any luck at all. I remember time and time again viewing my (Many Many Many) shots on the computer only to be disappointed.
This one is amazing!!! Maybe someday I'll succeed. TFS.

Good day Mr. Cheek

Good to make your acquaintance (again) Sir. It's not everyday one gets to meet a "master creator of wildlife habitat in your garden" (chuckle). I am sure you gave PBS some valuable tips and secrets on the topic. So sorry I won't be able to view the program.

Wow, I find it difficult enough to capture a stationary butterfly, but you nailed this one in flight and everything is just dandy. A perfectly isolated BG emphasise both the flower and the insect. The f/11 aperture ensured the full spectrum of both subjects is flawless and crispy, the colours are natural and pleasing, and technically everything is faultless.

Superb work my friend and TFS.
Regards
Loot

Hello Howard
The flight(theft) of this butterfly, as well as its colors are of a high quality.
Thank you for this very successful exploit

Hello Howard,
a fantastic picture of the starting plexippus. I tried several pictures of flying
Danaus genutia but the result was not encourageing.
Best wishes, Peter

Hi Howard,

Great to see You again. Fantastic, pro photography, very well chosen shutter speed - but I think You always knew how to set Your camera for a given scene. Absolutely beautiful pic, deserves my little green star. Bravo.

If possible, upload the int'view with You to YouTube, so we outside of the US will be able to see it and learn from it - although the motto of TN is "learning about nature through photography", not "learning about photography through nature", but we, amateurs, also use the site for the latter reason.

I was also thinking about my technical possibilities - I mean my Lumix bridge knows f/11, knows 1/2000, but not in this combination for sure... Not even with flash... So making a photo like this would be also impossible for me due to technical reasons.

Tfs this bombastic image, I wish You all the very best, László

Ciao Howard, Amazing capture, wonderful colors, splendid sharpness, great blurry BG, superb macro of flying butterfly, very well done, have a good Sunday, ciao Silvio

Hello Howard,
The use of very good equipment in the hands of the real master and this is the result. Absolutely amazing. Your technique is superb. I can learn a lot of this kind of masterpieces. The best photo I've seen in a long time. Thanks!
Regards,
Peter

This can only be a Howard-shot ...
Hi - that's your trademark - flying, colourful, sharp - terrific, wow!
I loooove it, I can't see enough of shots like that, show us more.
By the way - do you have some more shots of this wonderful green-metallic spider you showed us some years ago. You know which one I mean - even the teeth were green-metallic. It was the most interesting spider I have ever seen. I would like to see some more shots of it - so please go outside and search for this guy, ok? Haha, thanks and greetings

Hi Howard . Well i must say this must be one of the best butterfly pictures i have seen this year. Ok you have some great canon gear but you still have to know how to use it. Great timing in this close up to get the butterfly just after take of . With sharp focusing and fine detail along with rich colours. i have no more room in my favorites list i will have to sort that out and add this beauty . TFS.
Nick..

Excellent photo with very sharp details and wonderful natural colours.
The composition and the blurred background is perfect.

Hallo Howard,

You have done it again. This is what we have become accustomed to. Great!

Very good DOF gained with a stop of F11, and an impressive shutter speed thanks to the high ISO. What did you use to reduce the noise?

Jan-Hendrik

Hi Howard,

Hi Howard,
Beauty in suspension... Would you accept that as an alternate title?
Wow... breathtaking... as usual.
I love those legs hanging straight down.

Congratulations on your interview.
I wonder if I will be able to watch it from CA.
Let me go look for you. : )

Hi Howard,
I just watched the Youtube movie, and it is great to hear your thoughts about photography and nature. It's also great to hear the photographer behind so many great photos.
You made another wonderful photo here, with such great details and really beautiful light. The departing moment is a beauty. Looks like you got a nature background here, and not your kiddy pool.:)
