[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
One of the most common of the fritillaries in the eastern US and not so commmon in the west and the southern states. Their colors can be quite variable especially females in the western states. The males can be quite orange. This picture was taken on the Skyline Drive in the Shenandoah National Forest-a haven for butterflies.

Great photo Janice,
Very sharp and detailed, and the colours are gorgeous. Your lime green background really helps set this beautiful butterfly off.
Is it sitting on a milkweed plant?

I love the song it brings to mind... Oh Shenandoah....and on...as a child I thought the song was meant for me...I heard it as Oh Shannon-doah:-) Really...and my father, ever the jokester, left me thinking that way. A fine image Janice......good for an Irishman like me:-)))
