This is a Camel Cricket or Cave Cricket (Ceuthophilus). They like damp dark places. The so-called stinger is an ovipositor which distinguishes the female. She uses it to lay eggs.

Ah yes, your cricket is very much like the NZ weta. And I dopn't think I'd like to be too close to it either, as I'm sure it can jump on you too. Good shot Robin.
In NZ we have black crickets and green grasshoppers, but they aren't as scary as our weta.
