My wife and I went to Fish Creek near Hyder during the Chum Salmon run to watch Grizzlies feeding. On our last day there we were about to give up for the day when a Mom and her three cubs showed up and put on a late day show that lasted 3/4 of an hour. What a way to finish our trip. While there we noticed that the boars that we saw feeding would kill and eat the female salmon egg sacs almost exclusively, where as the female grizzlies and both sexes of black bears would feed on any salmon live or dead. Yes all those dead salmon do smell, LOL after four days at Fish Creek we started to smell bad too. Notice coastal grizzlies are almost totally brown, thus the name Alaskian Brown Bear.

Hi Rick, what an interesting photo.Did the bears at anytime while you were photoing them take notice of you?I have been fairly near to bears in the wild but not as close as your picture indicates. The focus is a bit on the soft side and maybe a little too dark, however those are minor flaws to anotherwise great shot.I have looked at a number of your other pictures and I must say you seen to have an innate ability to get beauty shots.Keep it up as your photos are much liked. Bob
