Hi Stranger
Nice to see one from you again and what a stunner it is. A beautiful bird, excellent pose, superb capture, and well presented. There is only one problem as far as I can tell. You did not include the orchestra in the photo. Why do only the conductor get to steal all the lime light?
That is one mighty fine bird and you've done it splendid justice with this posting.
Luvely my friend and TFS.

Hello Paul
This is certainly a fine capture..A question though?..is it a captive or wild Puffin?
Photographically captured very well indeed...And good luck on the Pecker.

Hi Paul
Superb shot of the Puffin.
Nicely composed with a great POV and fine open winged pose, I always think their don't look up to carrying their bodyweight.
Nice sharp details.
Beautiful natural colours and lovely light.

Hi Dude...
:-)
It's not a frog, isn't it? This isn't the result of any metamorphose, isn't it?
Frog or Puffin... as soon as an animal passes in front of his lens, it is transformed by the frog-dude-magician into a magnificient creature... It looks as if his magic wand enchants the animal and its environment.
Beautiful...
Thanks to the magician who hides behind the frog liking dude...

This is unlike anything I've ever seen before. The stunning clarity, the outstretched wings (I have expect him to bow...), the eye and actually, the face in minute detail. This capture is magnificent and I don't have to words to adequately describe how this make me feel.

Hey Frogman - what's happened to Pizza? Eaten too much? Or spending too much time in the bush looking for the woodpecker?
But what a beauty this fellow is Paukl. I'd love to see these birds for real. They are such cute characters and quite unique.
It's a brilliant photo, TFS

Hey Paul,
Fantastic image of this horned Puffin. There is another difference to Atlantic Puffins in the beak, the mating season beak colours are different (where this guy has the bony white colour, the Atlantic Puffins have greyish black). Great image and I imagine a fast shutter speed, I know how fast these little guys flap their wings. Great detail and exposure. I never did get to Alaska, the pesky job got in the way. I haven't given up hope though and I'm hoping for January/Feb 2009.
Good luck with your search for the woodpecker.
Cheers,
Adrian

Hi Paul,
I've only seen Puffins in pictures but I love them. I had no idea they were found in Alaska. This is picture perfect - fantastic pose with a wonderful look in his eye. The position of the wings is remarkable and you have frozen them perfectly. Beautiful colors and razor sharp details. Now, waiting to see your special woodpecker.

Paul,
Something looks really out of proportion here! At first glance, one might think that this bird will have a difficulty flying :)
That's a wonderful capture of such a cute bird. I'll have to make my way up to the coast one of those days to see one for myself as they are really beautiful. Your picture shows it! Great work.
Best Regards,
Martin

Hi Paul,
Puffins are among my favourites. Unfortunately have only had chance to see the North Atlantic one which is quite similar. It does not have toe nails, which find quite funny. Very good shot with good pose and composition, bright natural colours and pin sharp details.

Hi Paul and nice to hear from you again :)
I hope all is well with you.
This is a superb shot of this Pacific Horned Puffin - definitely very similar to the Atlantic one, but well presented here with those distinct vertical line towards the top of its head.
The pose you managed to get is also outstanding and the sharpness is wonderful.
The best of luck in getting a top picture of the woodpecker you're searching for and best wishes!
Bravo and TFS

Paul,
This is a crystal clear picture with excellent exposure. It seems that light wasn't ideal that day but every details and colors came out so well. I like this funny pose you captured. I never had the chance to see those birds in real… I always thought that they look like clowns :) Thanks,
Claudine

Bonjour mon ami,
Beautiful close-up for this cute Puffin. I never see in real this bird but I would like ;-)
The "+++" : composition, nice subject and pose, POV, sharpness, DOF, blurred BG, good exposure even on whites, instructive complementary note...
The "-" : nothing...
Congratulations Paul and thanks for sharing,
Christian

My longtime curse, I could never photograph a puffin properly, always miss for some reason. You did a beautiful job, look at that display of plumage, looks like he says: IM NOT A PENGUIN, LOOK, I CAN FLY AND I LIVE IN THE NORTHERN HEMISPHERE!
