Brittlebush/Brittlebrush: Encilia farinosa
I was inspired to upload my image of a brittlebush blossom because of this image uploaded by jaycee:
Brittlebush - Season's First Wildflower
Jane is soooooo right. Brittlebush (or Brittlebrush depending on what you've read) is the most common wildflower in southern Arizona and the Sonoran Desert. You see it everywhere in Spring no matter what weather conditions exist in any year.
It has been wet in the Sonoran desert this year so far. That is an indicator for a very good wildflower season.
jaycee's image is great for it being the very first observation for 2008.
My picture was taken during the great spring of 2005. That was one of the greatest spring flower seasons in the Sonoran Desert of the last 50 years in southern Arizona. The only difference with my image is I included a rare desert crab spider I was lucky to capture. |
