Strawberry Hedgehog Cactus: Echinocereus engelmannii

This view is strait down on a Strawberry Hedgehog that clearly shows how long it's spines are compared to it's overall small body size. Even its blossoms are large compared to the body of the plant.

This picture was taken north of Phoenix less than a mile west of I-17 just south of Black Canyon City.

I wonder if you will be at the VV meeting tomorrow. I can't remember what is on the program. You have posted a lot of very sharp desert flora photos. They are really nice. I'm afraid to get to close to those cactus spines!!
