Chain Fruit Cholla
Cylindropuntia fulgida (Engelm.) F.M. Knuth
also known as Opuntia fulgida
For those who have been dying to know, this is what the chain fruit of the Chain Fruit Cholla cactus looks like. Now you know!
Cholla are link cacti and in this case the fruits are linked as well. I'm not positive of this but I think this cactus can grow fruits off of fruits without having a blossom first. This cactus is all over the place in southern Arizona and has lots and lots of fruit and has a beautiful blossom that would attract your attention, but you don't see it's blossoms very often.

I've seen these fruit in our Domain Hot House in Auckland. They look quite ugly - but what do they taste like?
