Since this bird is rarely shown on TN I had to get a shot of him. The only time he wasn't moving around was while he ate. Please forgive the bird feeder.

Bronze Headed Cowbird

The Bronzed Cowbird (once known as the Red-eyed Cowbird), Molothrus aeneus, is a small icterid.

It breeds from the southern U.S. states of California, Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, and Louisiana south through Central America to Panama.

The male Bronzed Cowbird is 20 cm long and weighs 68 g, with green-bronze glossed black plumage and red eyes. The female is 18.5 cm long and weighs 56 g. She is duller black above and browner below. Young birds are like the female but have grey feather fringes.

Like all cowbirds, this bird is a brood parasite: it lays its eggs in the nests of other birds. The young cowbird is fed by the host parents at the expense of their own young.

Hi Jane.
How well feeder and bird are looked together. You have a great taste. Amazing black key execution of the shot. Great exposure and detail reproduction. DOF and sharpness of both attractive objects are excellent. Even light BG on the bottom is suitable for the scene and decorate the image. Well done and all my compliments.
Alexei.

Hello Jane,
I haven't seen the Bronze-headed Cowbird before. Even though he is at your feeder, it is a fine sharp capture that shows what he looks like.
Thanks for sharing him!

nice shot, good moment captured, great dof and sharpness.
well done.
TFS.

Hello Jane
Please make no excuses for the feeder being in the shot at all..Many times the capture of the subject far outweighs the consideration pov or bg etc. Lets not forget that you cant ask a bird to pose while we get it right!!
This is a superb capture again of a bird that I have never seen or heard of..(you teach me so much about the wildlife where you live)
The note is superb as well and this fella sounds alike he has the same behaviour as the Cuckoo that visits the UK.

Nice post Jane, I forgive the feeder :)
And I love that red eye too..
I've had a sore throat all day, feeling not so good..
Perhaps I'll have to cut back on that play-time with the squirrels in the sprinkler thing :)

The bird feeder is completely forgiven by the opportunity we have looking at this bird. I love teh red eye, the long black bill, the nice blueish feathers. I have never seen this species and I think it looks beautiful even though it has such a bad reputation. Thank you Jane, it is superb,

Francine

Nice shot at the feeder Jane. Well lit in pristine sharpness of the shot. Well done and best regards. Jusni

Your camera is working so well for you Jane. This image is perfection. I like it much and it does so much better with the surrounding while not natural, are a dynamic addition. That in itself is unusual...Very nice!

Hi Jane,
Wonderful shot of this Bronzed Headed Cowbird at the feeder. Very impressive sharpness and colours on its black plumage and you have handled the light and exposure pretty well here. I must say the feeder looks very decorative too. Excellent POV and composition. Kudos.

Beautifully captured bird. I like the details of the beak and eyes which are very sharp in details. You managed to do great work. This one is very handsome and you managed great exposure on those black feathers, perfect lighting at the right moment. Nice pose showing the beak and eye clear, crisp and sharp. Nicely composed. Thanks for sharing.
