Brown Pelican
Pelecanus occidentalis

A very large, stocky bird with a dark brown body and a long flat bill. The only non-white pelican in the world. Head whitish in adults, with dark brown on hindneck during breeding season. Young birds have dark brown head and whitish bellies.

These social colonial birds fly in single file low over the water; on sighting prey they plunge with wings half-folded, from heights of up to 50 feet (15 meters), surfacing to drain water from their bills before swallowing the fish. Unlike its larger white relative, the Brown Pelican seldom soars. Around waterfronts and marinas individual birds become quite tame, taking fish offered them by humans.

Hello Manyee,

First I thought the Pelican was walking on the grass!! :) Wonderful and sharp image of a flying bird. Sharp details, nice catchlight in the eye and saturated colors. Well composed also. The blue sky seems to be a bit grainy. Well done & TFS!

Regards,
Pieter

Wow, Manyee! I've missed many of your photos, but am glad I caught this one. You captured this pelican perfectly. It took me a moment to realize he was in flightm (I guess the title should have helped LOL) Very well done! :-)

It's a nice picture, Manyee.
The colours lovely. Good detials and POV.
There is some noise in the BG but I think you kan remove it with Neat Image.

Sorry Manyee, I did not notice it's a in-flight shot.
Taken with a S1 IS it's more than great, I know, I own a S1, it's almost impossible to useit for in-flights.
+10 points
Excellent work.

Great capture Manyee. I've tried and failed to get similar shots of our pelican, lucky you. Interesting light, reflected from the water I assume. Well donde.
