[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
I've posted a few Barker Dam comps from Joshua Tree Nat'l Park in the past, but in colour. This one I dabbled with in BW and applied a few colour filters for some added detail and effect. I'm actually finding BW conversions quite alot of fun to play with.

From Joshuatreenationalparkl.net:

Barker Dam is a naturally enclosed area of steep rock formations, boulders, and smooth platforms of rock, all of which form a "bowl" in the center. During the so-called rainy months, water collects in the valley of Barker Dam, giving the brush a chance to grow and the wildlife a place to drink.
Early settlers to the park built a 20-foot long, 10-foot high cinder block wall to fully enclose the area. This wall kept the water from escaping the valley. Early settlers used Barker Dam to allow horses and cattle to eat and drink. Some of the boulders contain dark lines five or six feet above ground level, which indicates where the water level existed at one time.

Hello Tim,
Excellent contrast in this surreal setting. The lighting, clouds, and composition all allow ourselves to sense what it would be like to walk amongst the boulder field and settle beside the banks of the oasis.
Excellent photo and B/W conversion...
Steve

Hi Tim,
I like your choice of B&W for this image it looks great. The sky looks fabulous as does the reflections on the water. Excellent POV, an all round lovely image.
Cheers,
Debbie

Hello Tim!
Very artistic and... dramatic picture thanks to usung BW colouration. I really like this presentation. It remind me some places from the "Rings of the Lord" :)
Very beautyfuf composition, very good DOF and details!
Bravo and TFS,
Greetings, Radomir

Hi Tim. I think B&W can be effective for many moods. For instance in this the shadows come into play nicely with it. Of course colour is my choice on landscapes, but because of the rocks here it works.

Beautiful!!
I don't know how you get that other-worldly effect. I think you have a talent for looking at the world at a slightly different angle.
Gorgeous!

Tim;
You have obviously created a new style based on an old one...that I cannot think how to do in my own photos. I have requested a wide angle Nikon lens now today and expect that I will give myself a jump start with your examples such as the last three.

I really like this format. It goes beyond zone photography that Ansel made so well. It goes into a completely different realm. Today is a good day to be a photographer eh?
