Dromedary Camel
Camelus (camel) dromedarius (running)

FAST FACTS
DESCRIPTION:
Woolly coat, caramel in color that often looks shaggy from seasonal shedding. Both sexes have a single hump on the back.
Males are considerably larger than females and have an inflatable soft palate which they use to attract females. (It looks like a frog's throat when inflated.)
SIZE: 1.8-2.3 m (5.8-7.5 ft.) tall at shoulder
WEIGHT: 300-690 kg (661-1521 lb.)
DIET: Almost any vegetation they can find
GESTATION: 12-13 months
SEXUAL MATURITY:
MALE At 5 years
FEMALE At 3-4 years
LIFE SPAN: 40-50 years
RANGE: Middle East and northern Africa; introduced to Australia and Namibia
HABITAT: Arid regions

FUN FACTS
1. The dromedary camel is capable of drinking 100 L (30 gal.) of water in just 10 minutes.

2. Camels store fat in the hump, not water! In fact baby camels are born without a hump because the layer of fat does not develop until they eat solid food.

3. Unlike most mammals, a healthy camel's body temperature fluctuates throughout the day from 34°C-41.7°C (93°F-107°F.) This fluctuation is important because it allows the camel to conserve water by not sweating as the environmental temperature rises.

This shot was taken at the Oakland Zoo.

Hi Manyee,

Looks like the Camel feels to proud to be photographed by you.
I think he did'nt like the small camera you did use and only wants to be shot with a decent SLR........lol.

Serious now: Wonderful image with lovely pose of the Camel.
Superb sharpness and great details in the fur.
Composition is excellent and I love the way the Camel does stand out against the green grass in the BG.
Excellent work.TFS!!!

Best regards, Harry

Great photograph. Good capture of a camel pose. Color, pose, sharpness and composition are exceptional.

A long time ago I had a girlfriend that compared herself to a dromedary(two humped) camel for entirely different be equally interesting reasons. Even now I would agree with her. :)

Hi Manyee,
Very nice capture, amazing detail and great colours.
Chi

La la la.... I can almost hear her from here. At least I can see her diva attitude. This is a fun, sharp image. What's with all that sunshine??????? No fair.

Evelynn : )

PS
I have been trying to email you all day but for some reason I can receive mail but not send it. I have spent an hour with Comcast and another hour+ with Apple (in India!) and I'm still where I began.

Hi Manyee,
Outstanding shot and a fabulous singing moment captured. Immaculate sharpness and colours with perfect lighting and exposure. The details on its fur are amazing and I like the way it closes its eyes to sing aloud. Excellent DOF and a well chosen POV to portray it. Very nicely composed. Kudos.
TFS.

Hi Manyee.
You have captured a charming moment. I like it a lot. What a cute expression of "face"/ amazing impressive sunlight, wonderful orange colours and crisp sharpness of the animal image. I like blurred a bit grass ground as a BG. Well done and TFS.

This is fun.
What was he singing for you?
Well done
