To continue with my series of humourous animal shots:
"This town ain't big enough for the two of us...," honked the goose.
Notice that this goose has his head completely turned around!

Egyptian Goose
Alopochen aegyptiacus

DESCRIPTION:
Male is buff; wing coverts are white with black primaries, green secondaries and brown tertiaries. Belly is paler, mantle darker. The rump, tail and back are black. There is a chestnut patch around the eyes and on the breast and a chestnut ring around the neck. There are two color phases, one with a grayer back. The female is similar, but slightly smaller. Their long legs are pink, bill is pink with a black tip and base, and the eyes are dark yellow. Their most distinctive feature is the bandit’s mask.

GEOGRAPHICAL RANGE AND HABITAT:
Inhabits Africa south of the Sahara, the Nile Valley, and southern Israel. Common anywhere except deep forest and desert, usually near water, sometimes on open plains. The only species of Shelduck found north of the equator.

DIET:
Feeds on crops and young grass.

LIFE CYCLE/SOCIAL STRUCTURE:
Wary. Perches and roosts in trees, often using the same branch each night. Dives freely in molt. Found in small groups or very large flocks. Noisy, often fighting. Call is a loud “Kak-kak”; hisses when annoyed. Breeds all months. Nest site varies: may be on ground, in holes in trees or cliffs, deserted tree nests, up to a mile from water. Nest is made of grass and reeds and lined with down. 6-10 yellowish white eggs are produced and incubated for 28-30 days. Life span is 22 years.

SPECIAL ADAPTATIONS:
They feed up on land as well as in the water.

INTERPRETIVE INFORMATION::
The Egyptian Goose is in the tribe of Shelducks. Apart from many duck-like characteristics, they also have external goose-like features.

This picture was taken at the Oakland Zoo.

Hi Manyee. This is such a funny picture you have named it so well. But apart from that the picture has been taken very well . the coloursand detail are spot on with good use of the light. all with interesting notes . well done TFS.
Nick..

wow it does look like a cowboy, that is cool.

Well, for a teacher, 180º neck turn is second best to having eyes in the back of one's head!
It's a nice sharp, amusing capture.

Hi Manyee

What a great cature it just looks like a scene from high noon, I guess being able to turn your head 180% is cheating in a shoot out though, nice details and good colours too.

Manyee,
Very unusual pose, but a great photo. Looks like he has his six shooters drawn and ready to challenge the first one to stand in his way.
Composed nicely, very sharp and detailed with wonderful colours. Good notes!

pts tomorrow!

Hallo Manyee
What a great photo. This Egyptian Goose is a solid built but beautiful bird, and you have captured it in a delightful pose. I like the different colours of the feathers and it is displayed well. The brown patch around the eye and the orange coloured eye itself is clearly visible and quite attention-grabbing. The framing and composition are delightful. A very sharp image with great natural colours and light, which brought out the colour out of the plumage in great exactness. Congratulations and thank you very much for sharing. Enjoy your day.
Kind regards
Anna
