I want to San Diego Zoo this past weekend and this was
the only good bird shot that I could get! Sorry Jane, the
Panda exhibition had a huuuuge line so I could not get that shot for you. Well, but I have the male Eclectus Parrot, Eclectus roratus for you, I hope you like it!
Is a parrot native to the Solomon Islands, New Guinea, northeastern Australia and the Maluku Islands (Moluccas). It is unusual in the parrot family for its extreme sexual dimorphism of the colours of the plumage; the male having mostly bright green plumage and the female mostly bright red plumage with purple fronts. Joseph Forshaw, in his book Parrots of the World, noted that the first European ornithologists to see Eclectus Parrots thought they were of two distinct species. Large populations of this parrot exist in Papua New Guinea, where they are sometimes considered pests for eating fruit off trees. Their bright feathers are also used by native tribes people as decorations. |

Exceptionally beautiful parrot Everton,
Wonderful coloration with very fine detail. Love the composition and your exposure is right on the money!! I'm sure you got some great shots on your outing, looking forward to seeing more...

Hi Everton,
What a wonderful surprise - thank you so much. Don't blame you for not waiting on line for the panda - I know how long that line can be. This parrot fills the bill perfectly. Those greens and blues are magnificent. I love that face with the very colorful beak. He seems to be looking at me and telling me to visit him in San Diego. Not a bad idea.

This is a handsome specimen with rich green plumage and a hint of blue under it.
