While traveling to Hetch Hetchy to see the reservoir and waterfalls I had heard so much about, we drove 16 miles through wilderness, awesome landscape, color, life, death, and clean air.
Just before arriving at the reservoir, we stopped to take in the valley and were stunned by the beauty we found below.
The water from the dam is pumped 167 miles by a gravity-driven network of dams, reservoirs, tunnels, pump stations, aqueducts and pipelines and delivers 239 million gallons per day to San Francisco. |
