Hello Niek,
How wonderful to be able to take such a shot of three deer in their natural environment when you least expect it!
The lighting is just right and the trees provise a fine natural BG.
Thanks and best regards,
Ivan

Well I'd say these ladies saw a handsome young man observing them and just had to pose for him!
It is amusing how elk and deer, if they don't run off immediately, will just stand and stare at you. This reminds me of a long ago post of mine (http://www.treknature.com/viewphotos.php?l=3&p=124510) I named it "Now... look at the camera"
Though this was taken not far from my home, I have to admit we rarely see elk. It is because there is so little public land. Being that you were on a farm/nature reserve you had some interesting sightings...from the front deck yet : P
It is a nice capture with a medium range lens. It's interesting that shooting f/4 from a distance gives quite deep focus. The color and tonal values look very good.

Hi Niek
Hehe...indeed three of the exact same kind :)
This is really a capture where timing was of the essence. Without it, i think this would be just a simple shot of an elk from far away, but now with it, their mirror pose compensates for your limited zoom and gives a great impression of the herd and how things work in it.
The colors are very nice as well and show how nice they blend in the environment and that time of day is also great, saturating the tones nicely.
Last but not least, one usually forgets about composition in such cases, but not you: the "ladies" are positioned very well at 1/3 of the height of the frame and the crop from the vertical gives a lovely wider feel for the scene.
Lovely work, my friend!
Bravo and TFS
