The Salsify in this meadow as (anel) posted in coming to life, was just taken yesterday and it has fully bloomed and is already in this thistle and seeding stage. There are though full blossoms and new ones coming in now so this will last another month or perhaps 6 weeks. Then all thistle around the Salsify along with it will be turning to down and blowing every which way. I find the patterns in the large globes of seed very interesting. They captivate the eye...and are so large certainly not hard to miss. this one is as big as a softball, but that may mean not much to Europeans...hmmm...well it is 5-6 US inches in diameter. And besides the ones in bloom and still coming to life, there are more of these nearby as well...it is quite the wild weed patch this year!

Hello Bob
Despite the crop this as sharp as you like!!..As for us Europeans living in the UK we know only to well the size of a softball as we were taught it at school!!..Its a bit of a pussies game I reckon..The cricket ball makes you a bit more fearfull on a wrongly delivered approach!!.....A very good size indicator you have used here though and I am a user of feet and inches opposed to this imposed metric stuff!!
All the best
Paul

You are introducing me to the Salsify! Looks sneezy like a dandelion. Beautiful shot with wonderful details and nice shadings. I love the centered composition.

Tom Did you get the picture of the Eagle?

Dear Bob,
This is an excellent, sharp macro photograph of a Meadow Salsify, which gets me into childhood nostalgia of how we as kids used to blow it's seed :0< and enjoy. TFS.

Very interesting image Bob,
Looks like this plant is sporting an afro hair do. I don't ever remember seeing one of these here in Ohio, but that doesn't mean that they are not around.
Very sharp and detailed photo, looks like you could actually reach out and grab a handful of that thich hair-like material. Well done!!
Ron

I'm laughing because I took nearly the same photo today! The reason being, it's as you described: I find the patterns in the large globes of seed very interesting. They captivate the eye...and are so large certainly not hard to miss.

Now I have to wonder if it's the same one. How funny - great minds do think alike. I love how fragile they are, the the lighting here is much nicer than what turned out on mine. Then again, I had it on the wrong settings - oops!

This does make me want to go blow on some (it's so hard to resist temptation), but what keeps me from doing that is the shapes. It's like a drug, and I can get dizzy from it, but it's all about nature, honey. Who needs a buzz from a drug when natural things are buzzing all over?

Thanks for posting, now later I must find out if we took a photo of the same one! Good evening, my friend.

Namastay Bob,
A nice looking flower looks somewhat similar to a dandelion to me. Excellent details and a very nice composition even if heavily cropped. Thanks a lot for sharing.

Sincerely
HP

Wow, what a beauty, Bob!
The image is so very sharp and colorful I see each component of this flower very clearly.
If you had not mentioned the actual size, I would have imagined it to be a small flower.
Thank you for sharing this remarkable image and best regards.

Used to play softball at school Bob, so i know how big this is! Lovely lighting and a really good sense of how the texture of those fine fibres must feel. DOF is spot on perfect too, nicely done..

Hello Bob,
Funny to see that you show what my picture will be very soon and I show what your subject has been before. Everything is so relative. But it's true thar these shiny seeds have something very special and like some older beings something very beautiful.
Thanks
Anne

Hi Bob,
Wonderful shot of this so beautiful and pretty Salsify and the silky bristles shine in this bright sunlight. Very impressive sharpness and details and I like its form and shape. This indeed is a great image and you have a genre which many among us fail to comprehend. I for one would definitely be proud if I could see things the way you do. Excellent POV and very nicely composed. Kudos.
TFS.

Hi Bob,
what a superb compositon , with crisp, razor sharp details in great lighting.Haha...i like your interesting notes Bob.
I can imagine when you say it is as big as a soft ball and i am also imagining the time when it wil start blowing off left, right and centre. It is going to be quite a wonderful time...to see them, but i guess they are alos quite detrimental for asthma patients isnt it?

I just love the way you this one all lit up in the bright sun almost glistening white(gray)gold of my grandma's hair:)Nice PoV making baest of natural light.
Very well done.
TFS & Cheers
