I have been seeing, here on TN the last few days, a number of images with the flora and the insect/spider a small part of the image. Since I have a few insects within my walking range and the interaction with flora is great, I thought I would post a bit late...take some time to awaken for a change and post my image later int he day. That brings me to this Misumena vatia, or commonly know "Crab Spider". I am Not particularly fond of spiders, even this small 'harmless' one. It seems if I am bitten even by something non poisonous, I break out in a rash that will last for 2-3 days. Not a big deal...and it doesn't hap[pen often. We did live in the wilderness..and we had some pretty nasty looking black widows, so this one didn't give me the goose bumps! Oh! In case you do not read forum, I have a small movie of our last wilderness cabin which was luxury compared to our original smaller one...you can see it here.... CLICK

Hi Bob,

Thanks to TN I recognized this as a crab spider. Macros are wonderful but this shot gives a good perspective of the spider's size in relation to the flower petal. The flower is beautiful - I love the yellows and oranges.

Jane

Hello Bob,

I agree with you, Spiders, poisonous or not, cause many an allergy, so it's best to avoid them!I ended up with a swollen face, with small red rash all over, when one walked over it when i was peeping into a flower as a kid!
Sorry, I digressed!Great shot, Bob!but ince when did you follow others and do things, per the trend?I thought it was you that set the trend!

Hi Bob!

You present us a beautiful picture, outstanding due to the perfect composition: the flower is repeated in the diagonal, the spider - although very little - is well put on stage. The large surface covered by the flower gives the picture a colourful and warm expression.

Kind regards

Markus

Hi Bob

I share your feelings about spiders - and insects in general! Great shot - great colour and detail - the positioning of the spider in the frame is really good.

James

Whereas you seem to prefer to to show us more of the flower, I am really impressed with your picture of the Crab Spider on one of its petals, Bob.
The picture is brilliant in every respect -- colors, composition and sharpness.
Take care and don't get bitten by anything anymore!

Hi Bob!

I like these yellow flowers - they're very attractive to almost all insects and many of them can be find around. Great, saturated colours and warm light. Good composition. Spider is sharp and in good pose.

Hello Bob - I'm not a spider fan either, but I now know what Crab Spiders look alike since TN.
He's got some pretty flowers to live among. And your photos shows us just how small he really is.
Well done
Janice

Hello Bob,
I saw your little Crab Spider yesterday but got distracted by a phone call! Anyway, this is a lovely view of a beautiful flower, I wonder what it is? The little Crab Spider is 'cute' too! Excellent sharpness, wonderful colours and a beautiful composition.
Many thanks and regards, Ulla

Hello Bob,
This photo in its composition is very beautiful. Original too. Now I see a Crab Spider without the use of a macro lens and have an idea how big it is.
The colours and details are splendid; POV very interesting.
Have a great weekend,
Peter

Hi Bob,
Outstanding shot with such glorious colours and immaculate sharpness. The small spider is dominated by the huge flower and the image looks so artistic. Very pleasing to the eyes and it needs a master craftsman like you to do it the way you usually do. Simply majestic. The bright natural light gives the image perfect illumination. Excellent DOF, POV and composition. Kudos.

Exceptionally high quality image. Color and sharpness are superb. Just a superb, high quality picture!

To show that great minds think along similar lines here are a couple crab spider images of mine:

In Apache Junction, AZ
http://www.pbase.com/azleader/image/42101182

Near Buena Vista, OR
http://www.pbase.com/azleader/image/85989023

Btw... did you know that crab spiders are chameleon-like? After a few hours they change color to match their surrounds like in my first picture. In the second one the spider had not had time to change yet.
