Perhaps the last in my year long series of wild grasses, this one goes undocumented as per my local college professor. I am told that this grass is among a group of many sub species of ancient grasses which grew here on the Palouse back in the days last written of Indigenous folks. While Native Americans live on, many still on their chosen reservations, few if any know much of oral traditions which the Native American was once so known for. As few as a dozen years ago, Native Elders could tell me stories a person had never heard, but at the time I did not know the questions...in Indian Country it is said " "Knowledge is passed down to the next seven generations ahead.". This was more specific to the group and did not include "outsiders". Today even some of the good red road brothers are outsiders. I am but a grain of sand on the long shoreline.

Some the unknown grasses include sweet grass. According to tradition: "Once common, sweet grass has become rare due to development, cattle-grazing, and wheat growing. Native Americans in the northern plains have tried to protect remaining fields.". A number of things have to be considered here. Native Americans were carnivores. Many if not most Americans are also carnivores. I have seen many a good documentary of Native Americans who tell us of how they treated the animal as a Sacred part of themselves and when killing a creature they offered much of it to another higher power. And while they considered the grasses on which the animals ate, they had little tradition mostly carried by grandmothers, or ancient ones of the sky which meant after their passing. We here on TN know in fact that photosynthesis creates and makes alive all these things called grasses and adds it to the bigger pattern of life which we call living here on Earth.

I enjoy TN. It is an education. It gave me cause to look up a word which James used in critiquing a photo of mine, alliteration. I had heard it before and perhaps knew its meaning, but had long ago forgotten. So I looked it up. And it worked for me. I knew what I had done and I knew how it connected with James....and so on this goes until we are all one people, interconnected in some obscure way....simple as the grass is green. so be it. this is the wild grass of the Palouse...and it is indeed rare. As rare as friends...
Bob

Hello Bob,
This is a beautiful picture of 'The green, green grass of home...'. Even though we're out so much in nature looking for birds, insects and flowers, there's still so much that we miss, like all the beautiful grasses and weeds there are. I wish I had four eyes, or eight, like some spiders have! :-) We've got a lovely book of grasses and I ought to look at it more often.
Many thanks, Ulla

I really like these type image captures. Very northwest!

Hi Bob,

For someone who sees grass only on the greens of a golf course this is a delight. I'm not sure I would have been imaginative enough to take this shot but I'm so glad you did! It's beautiful. Just as Ulla did, I thought of the Green Green Grass of Home. Now I'll be hearing Tom Jones in my mind all day long.

Ah, our beautiful grasses. I must admit, I see so many variations of grass, but never think to photograph them. This is a nice capture, the color, texture, and composition. The exposure is easy on the eyes and makes me want to go roll in it - if only I weren't allergic!

Hi Bob, you should rename these images, "Leica Series" these shots are so bright and natural, you and that camera has given such life to the grasses. The depth and clarity is excellent.

Hi Bob

Glad I reminded you - and indeed we are all connected.

This is a simply but highly effective composition with great impact. The textures are great - I also like the contrating wild oats.

Hi,just marking no time,excellent pic,be back tomorrow,Luciano

Dear Bob,
Invariably the topic of grass remains subdued over other noticeable fauna & flora. Your way of presentation makes it interesting & gives them their positioning in TN as a major contributor to the ecosystem. The note is informative.

Sorry! My computer is acting up on me again, this time I think it's got some virus!
Great shot!

Namastay Bob,

Bonjour Bob,

Hello Bob

A lovely visual shot of these grasses.
The fronds with the seeds are beautiful and graceful in appearance ,almost as if blowing in the wind.
Well defined and focused.
The natural colours are well reproduced.

Hi Bob,
a great study in grasses, of which there are many uses. The mix of brown and green grass heads here makes for an interesting composition, and i can see what attracted you to this scene. I enjoyed your note too, as always.
Cheers my friend,
Paul

Wonderful shot Bob,
This image just seems to draw you into it. I love the textures of all the many different kinds and color of grasses.
You can almost feel their prickly and rough surfaces as well as the softness of the silky hair like ends some possess.
Very sharp and well exposed scene. Great notes!!

Hi Bob.
So poetic presentation of the common (at first glance) subject. I thinks regular wild green grass is most pleasant for eyes and human soul. I like widest DOF and excellent details of every ear and very nice rich colouration of the grass. My kind regards and TFS.

Hi Bob,
Outstanding shot of these wild grasses and they look so beautiful. I can close my eyes and see them dancing and swaying in the cool breeze with gay abandon. Lovely colours and sharpness and the image looks so lively. Great work by an artist of unparallel enthusiasm and vigour. Excellent POV and very nicely composed. Kudos.
TFS.
