Everything is relative I suppose... "Life is Good" depends on your point of view. This grizzly bear, who got to sleep through the longest winter in 20 years, and awake to a feast of winter killed animals, was feeling quite good. With a full stomach and the sun finally out he just rolled around and stretched and could not hide his contentment. He was guarding three elk carcasses and life indeed seemed good!

The night before we had researched just where the carcasses were and knew the visibility would be poor due to landscape and vegetation. We got up at 3:00 am and drove to the location and positioned our vehicle so that we could get a good vantage point. See workshop reference photo.

Now that I look at this on TN I see that I could have cropped out the bottom part with the OOF plant... oh well...

Hi Evelynn,
wow such an interesting and novel point of view courtesy of your camper's roof and such a safe spot to take photos from should the bear not care for it's photo being taken.I like the colours in this shot and those amazing claws the bear has and it is nice that rather than just standing the bear is having a good roll about on the ground.Did this one know you were watching it?I always like it best when I can get candid shots of wildlife with little or no eye contact as they seen to be more natural in behavior if they don't know I'm about. Thanks for giving all this view. Bob

hello evelynn,

Hi Evelynn

This is a stirling image despite the OFF plant - the pose is just wonderful. The bear is well exposed too.

Hi Evelynn!

This is another beautiful picture of a bear. It must be impressive to see it live! It's also impressive to read how you managed to take the picture. Congratulations!

Kind regards

Markus

Nice shot Evelynn,
It pays to get up very early !!!
Kind regards
Albert

Great title & capture Evelynn..
I just got some shots of my squirrels doing the very same thing recently.
When I saw the squirrels here exhibiting this behavior for the first time, I immediately thought of our dogs doing their back scratching in similar fashion. In one frame the squirrel paused..looked like he was playing possum ;}

Hello Evelynn

A milestone photo...did you realize this is your 400th post.
A beautiful capture of this very wild animal.
These guys mean business.
Lovely focus and sharpness.
The details are wonderful. The claws really show well.
A terrific natural history shot.

Rob

Very nicely done! You've captured quite a bit of character in this shot, I would have been way too scared to get close to a grizzly though, even in a vehicle! Great job,

Ciao Maurizio

I just love this shot. What abandon! Life is good!
Akoa does the same thing every morning, when I let him out to the backyard.
It is so amazing that you were able to capture this behaviour in the wild.
And from a grizzly bear, no less.
Great stuff! TFS. : )

Hi Evelynn
Wow, Another great shot of the Bear. What a great moment you captured.
Congratulations on a well done shot.

Hi Evelynn
Wow..look at those claws...they are huge. Your image shows that even Grizzly Bear have a relaxing side to them and their daily routine. I agree about cropping out part of the bottom of this image. Still a really nice image of this large Grizzly bear.
TFS Janice

Hi Evelynn,
Yes, life is good, especially when you look this relaxed. I like your note and the extra effort you can Jerry take to make these photos. Getting up that early and hoping that you will see a bear shows the real spirit of photography. I like the photo of Jerry on top of the truck as well. The details in this photo are excellent and the OOF plants in the FG don't bother me at all.
TFS,
Niek
