[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
As much as I would like to give you some info on this larva, I couldn't come close to anything with my identification tries.
All I could tell you is that it looked interesting to me. Probably some butterfly larva. It was aprox 4 cm long. The leaf is definately an american Quercus species.

All I can tell you, Petru, is that this is a kind of woolly bear that will turn into a moth. As to what kind, I do not know. Sharp details and nice colors. Well done and TFS. : )

Hello Petru!
I'm impressed. Great fluff bebe :-)
Amazing shot with great colours.

Hi Petru,
Sorry, I also don't know what we can see here, but I also had to tell that I don't know what I'm showing today. But we have so many specialists here, somebody knows, I'm sure.
Anyway it's a cute animal, I love the orange stripe, excellent work, thanks

Colorful caterpillar Petru!
He could partner up with the Red Bishop Bird and they would be a matched pair...;-) as long as the bird didn't make a snack out of the caterpillar.
Thanks,
Dave

A real fluffy, very intersting catch.
Photo-wise, conditions were tricky for expposure. SomeT detail is lost in the blacks and whites. he animal has black as well as white parts and the light situation is such that you have reflections form the leave too (which you manage well), which does not make things easier.
Good shot!
Kind regards,
Gabi

Very showy larva for sure. I like its black-orange-black colours, spikes and composition with sharp leaf. Very nice post Petru!

Hello Petru,
Very nice larva but I have no idea what it is :-(
I hope someone will help!
Good colours and details, the reflections on the leaf a bit too prominent :-)
Best greetings,
Michal

Well, I'm glad I can help again. It's a larva of a tiger moth, Lophocampa maculata, it feeds on a wide variety of trees including poplars, birches, maples, willows and oaks; larvae of a similar species, Pyrrharctia isabella, lack the long white hair tufts.
