I am amazed at those Brown Pelicans. On land they look comical with their huge beak and their big bellies prompting forward. Yet as they take to the sky, their body proves to be one sleek machine with their 2 meter wingspan. In fact I missed quite a few birds in flight because I framed them too tight to start up with and ended up with missing feathers!
This one I took without a tripod, my camera on sport mode at 400 ASA.
As for the post-processing to sharpen up my image, I gave up after three trials! I would love one of you to do a workshop on this to sharpen it without creating any blur around the edges. I certainly can't!
Hope you like it still! On my screen this is magnificent... And it is so sharp... I wish I could show you... :"( |

That's an impressive wingspan Genevieve. It looks like a very efficient flying machine indeed. You're lucky to get to photograph these. Good work.

Hi Genevieve
These pelicans sure are a lovely sight to behold, especially in flight. You've managed to capture this one excellently.
The composition is good, but what makes it stand out for me is the cropping. The fact that you've placed the bird at the bottom 1/3 axis of the shot you created a feeling for the fastness of the ocean upon which this bird soars. The ample space in front off the bird gives it freedom to fly. Details are fine and exposure is good.
Good work and TFS.
