This is the female to the Golden Pheasant I posted a couple of days ago.

Golden Pheasant
Chrysolophus pictus

Though large and colorful, these are secretive birds that creep through the forests of central China. Golden pheasants feed primarily on tender bamboo shoots, as well as on insects and flowers. The bright plumage of the male pheasant plays an important role in attracting the duller-colored female. During his elaborate courtship display, the male spreads his neck feathers over his head and beak like a cape. Males sometimes fight each other for the attention of a female, slashing at each other with their sharp heel spurs. These fights, however, rarely result in injury.

There are no pheasant species native to North America. The ring-necked pheasants that make their home here were introduced from Asia for sport.

This photo was taken at a small zoo that kept a collection of exotic pheasants from around the world.

Hello Manyee

Woow great closeup Manyee. Very nice visibility of structures and details.TFS

A very interesting and unique looking bird.
I have never seen it before. The patterns on its body and head looks much like an egyptian costume or headwear, don't you think?

The colors are lovely, and the sharpness are perfect revealing good, clear details. Very nice.

Steph

I'm glad that you got a few shots from your expedition. I know how frustrating it can be when the birds won't stand still. These birds are so pretty. Actually they all seem so much prettier in your photos because one can get a better look at them. I hadn't realized how much variety that they have there.
