Ocotillo

The ocotillo (Fouquieria splendens - also called the coachwhip, Jacob's staff, and the vine cactus) is a curious, and unique desert plant of the southwestern United States and northern Mexico. For much of the year, the plant appears to be an arrangement of large dead sticks, although closer examination reveals that the stems are partly green. When rain comes, the plant quickly becomes lush with small (2-4 cm) ovate leaves, which may remain for weeks or even months.

The stems may reach a diameter of 5 cm at the base, and the plant may grow to a height of 10 m. The bright red flowers appear in spring and summer, occurring as a group of small tube shapes at the tip of the stem.

Hello Jane,
Lovely colorful shot of a plant entirely new to me. This is sharp and well composed and the House Finch showing his redness in the corner is just right and he has a great pose too.
Fine post and note.
TFS and enjoy your Easter.

Hello Jane,
This finch has a matching color with environment. Red mean joy. So this is a joyful time. Nicely composed and well seen picture. TFS.

A delightful composition with the ornate and flowery branch of Ocotillo filling the frame diagonally and hosting a bird too at the lower end!
The blue sky makes the most pleasing BG as ever in most of your pictures.
TFS.

What a superb composition Jane! Those colors are simply beautiful. I love this presentation a lot and the pose of the bird is so cute. I. This is nice picture with good POV. I still wonder though why is the image noisy; I really wish I could understand... :-) Well done and TFS,
Claudine
