These two butterflys where flying around and then decited to land on the grass the two butterflys are the same one just the one on the bottom has his wings closed. Hope you like it i waited around for these guys to land.

Hello Erika,
Not often one has the chance to photograph the upper and undersides of the wings of a species on the same shot. This shot is shrp and well presented, showing a male approaching the female with open wings.
Great achievement in showing this on a pair of Hoary Commas (Polygonia gracilis). Washington must be at the southernmost limit of this northern species.

Amaszing, one butterfly as open his ailes and the other one they are close , the composition is really super.
