Juvenile Roadrunner

Greater Roadrunner: Large, ground-dwelling cuckoo with overall brown, white and buff streaked appearance. Head has a shaggy crest. Face has blue and orange bare patch of skin behind eyes. Tail is long. Sexes are similar. Resident in southwest U.S. and Mexico; found in open, arid country with scattered thickets.

Interesting Facts
Roadrunners can fly, but they usually don’t. Instead, they run at speeds up to 15 mph.

This is the state bird of New Mexico. It was adopted in 1949 under the name of “Chapparal Bird.”

To warm up without spending a lot of energy, roadrunners erect their feathers to expose the underlying black skin to the sun’s rays.

This bird was the inspiration for the cartoon Roadrunner who was known for uttering its signature “beep-beep” while escaping the grasp of Wile E. Coyote.

Good grab and note.

Hi Jane,

A super picture with a lovely note. How well do they fly? Well done.

Jan-Hendrik

Hi Jane,
This is one of the best Roadrunner picture that I have ever seen. This one is so cute. Nice blurred background of Tuscon. Very well done and tfs.

Hi Jane,

it's so good to see birds and animals from other parts of the world.

This is a great little shot, in your garden I assume.
It looks like a normal flying bird as opposed to something that spends most of it's time running around.

Lovely features.

Hello Jane,
Nice capture of a wall, no, I mean Road Runner. Pleasing composition showing the Road Runner sharply and contrasting well against a blurred human residential BG. How marvellous to have these at your doorstep!
TFs and best wishes, Ivan

Another lovely picture of Roadrunner, Jane.
Well done and TFS.

Hi Jane,
Another excellent roadrunner. You caught a great typical pose and the details are nice. I think the contrast is a little light, but expect that you were shooting in bright sun. Good DOF.

Hello Jane , very good photo of " The Clown of the Desert " TFS and good luck.

Hola Jane,
Que ejemplar tan bonito y tan bien retratado, la luz es encantadora, la nitidez excelente. Saludos

Oh, it's great!!!
Great clear photo of a fascinating bird.
We used to see them all the time here inTexas, but like the Horned Toad, they seem to be disappearing.
