Is this an low opiate poppy or is it Papaver somniferum L?
+It is a low opiate, the kind used in breads and other foods!
If it were of the high opium class, then it would be somehow noticed quickly. I remember back when I sold my computer store on the coast of Mendocino, it was a sad time, so I set up a desk in the new owners store, at his invite. This gentleman was an old musician friend who had his post graduate degrees in music performance etal; from University of Vienna. He was also 100% Chinese and came to the US at age 7 with his parents. He graduated with BA in Music from UCLA and was fluent in many languages, but always an interesting man to speak with. Taught me physics, Taoism and philosophy of selling computer software....oh yes and how to make REAL "Birds Nest Soup"...
+One day he showed me the poppies outside of the store which had been planted by the previous renter of the office. He told me that I should pay close attention to this plant and watch it grow, then disappear. The Mendocino area is full of old time hippies turned businessmen and women. I was suspect that someone knew something that I didn't and sure enough one day came and he said.."It will be gone in a few days" and the next morning, they had disappeared. I learned quite a bit from Jack, as I am drug ignorant and was not aware of the nature of the beast.
+It was written about me in an article by Den Thompson, author
"Bob and Jane arrived in California during a period of artistic foment in the Bay Area, including the tail end of the Beat Movement. Concerning the beat authors and poets wandering around Golden Gate Park and Haight about this same time, Bob said that he understood their whole scene up to a point. It was when they got into the hard drugs that he lost the thread. It was like getting up to the door of the yellow submarine, but not knowing the secret knock--the message of the literature and the philosophy went awry somewhere between free love and acid." -("Pax Cultura" Winter 2006 Edition-Author Dennis Thompson)
+Now 18 years later I have seen many a poppy, but today I decided to photograph the inside of one close up. The results of course are nothing new to most on TN, but certainly a work of art in picture...A symphony of color and design. And one can see it all through the quietness of the mind, without help from ingested alterations outside the body. Here is where nature knows no boundaries and meets the invisible thing we call skin.....we become one. |

Rich vivid color! Gorgeous composition. It's like a painting, almost.
Hi Bob
Fantastic colors and composition together with nice notes TFS. Regards/Lawhill
The "quietness of mind" is imperative to reach out to the therapeutic touch of an image like this and connect to it, Bob.
The "design" on the core of this flower in your picture suggests to me the pictorial representation of the great transformative power contained in the oriental symbol of the Mandala.
The other colors and designs around the core make the representation visually much more attractive.
Regards.
What I will say ---a story or a note. But it is as beautiful as the picture.THANKS.
BOB oh! BOB.
This, my 'FRIEND' is: A WORK OF ART.

Hello Bob,
It is indeed a painting, a work of art. Brilliant colors, interesting pattern and great composition.
I like your statement "certainly a work of art in picture...A symphony of color and design. And one can see it all through the quietness of the mind, without help from ingested alterations outside the body."

Hi Bob,
amazing colours!
Great composition and POV.
Well done,
Joey
Hello Bob! Even when no one is "harvesting" the poppies, the blooms sure don't last long do they! Rich, imaginative capture of this beauty, wonderful composition! Great capture! Thank you, Linda
Dear Bob,
Very beautiful exceptionally sharp macro photograph of this poppy flower; surprisingly even I have done same experiment to click this as close as possible but could NOT get this quality image. Will post you later just for perusal. TFS.
