+"The willows all have abundant watery juice, furrowed scaly bark which is heavily charged with salicylic acid, soft, pliant, tough wood, slender branches and large fibrous often stoloniferious roots. These roots are remarkable for their toughness, size, and tenacity of life." Source Wiki

+Last summer, late in the year, Vesper Swallows watched and sang their hymn as the sun went down. Then they were quiet. We were a bit concerned when the long branches were cut off from their main branch. This left no place for the swallows which was an evening ritual with incenses burning in our small dwelling. Spring has now come and look how quickly the branches are regrouping.

+I present these side by side for differing perspectives of the bark.

+Now my wife of 41 years will have her evening vespers along with the birds. She enjoys this evening time to reflect, a sort of personal meditation with very soft ambient music in the background. After so many years in the wilderness, this last move to a city has been rather harsh. We are used to the natural calming sounds of our creek, the occasional breaking of branches from an unknown predator.. ..the slow circling of eagles, then turning to returning barn swallows, later to bats. This is when we were ready to head inside the cabin for the night....all of this in the wilderness mountains...so near us at 4 hours drive (if I were able to drive that far) , but no residence...so we are left with this simple vision of willows and sounds of birds......it shall have to suffice...

+Christianity, of which I am an offshoot, speaks of heaven as gold, crystal and angels singing. This is not the way I perceive it. The wilderness, for us, would be a prefect place to be. Our last wishes are to spread our ashes among the tall trees of the higher mountains......that, to me, is Heaven.

To the place I belong....." -John Denver

First of all, AMEN to your concept of Heaven. I've always hoped/believed that Heaven would be much like earth. I would miss the green, the water, the winds, the songs...I love this masterpiece God created.

Interesting side by side comparison.
YOu've shown how nature is resilient, she will bounce back and regenerate (HOPE!).

Thanks for not just another great photo, but another chance to 'think.'

Hello Bob,
Great photo, with a lot of thoughts, well done bob, thanks for Sharing, best Regards/ Lawhill

Hi Bob,

an interesting idea, which offers the eye the contrast of colour and B&W.
I quite like the idea and has given me the thought to maybe to a triptych or image grid of the sameshot but with different colour washes.
As far as heaven. I'm a man of the 21st Century and not the 12th. When we die, we die. I'm not going to waste my life missing the real heaven, here in the natural world waiting for something else that isn't there.
So to you Bob, tonight I shall raise a toast and your slice of heaven.

Gary

Very evocative images and a deeply touching note, Gary.
Let me refect over it.
In the meanwhile, thanks for another great post.
Regards.

Bob,
Hope ALL your dreams come true, SINCERELY I mean this.
It must be "hell" for you to live within a city limits;
but, I see you are coping.
Lovely photography. Great way to compare. A picture says a thousand words.
Fond and friendly greeting to the two of you.
Your Canadian buddy,
Mario.
