Return of the Cicadas
| [Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
| Cicadas have diferent lifespans depending on species. The ones here in Illinois are on a 17 year cycle. They came out for the first time yesterday. I did not realize that they were out until I heard them in my car on the way home. The collective chirping was so loud I could here it though the car door, engine sounds, "rush" hour traffic, and my car raddio at 2/3 volume. When I got out to the forrest preserve, they were so loud that my ears were ringing after wards. Cyclic Cicadas come out in astronomical numbers. Expect to see more of them and the abundant catapillars which came out today over the next few days. |
