Dedicated to angybone who helped me through a crisis of a broken camera. Because of her infused courage I was able to use my small expertise in electronics and patience. I amazed myself. Sometimes things happen that way. Thanks Angelina!

To see a world in a grain of sand
And heaven in a wild flower
To hold infinity in the palm of your hand
And eternity in an hour
-William Blake

The New World quails are small birds only distantly related to the quails of the
Old World, but named for their similar appearance and habits. The American species are in their own family Odontophoridae, whereas the Old World are
in the pheasant family.

I thought it would be my last picture on this camera...and alas I had little money for replacing it. That would have left me with all this Nikon paraphernalia and no body......and yet through the miracle of TN and a friend, it is not the last....

The picture however is the first California Quail I have seen up here in some 15 combined years. In the wilderness we have grouse...and it may be the last bird I have actually....well no nice way to say it, but dispatched...and it was quite by accident...as I walked with camera and protective device, up a long path to picture an American Eagle and a Bald Eagle which each had nests on corner markers of my acreage. A grouse sprang up out of nowhere and instinctively for the first time in 30 years, I brought up the rifle and shot. Sorry...all my life as a child I hunted with my dad, a naturalist as well...strange combination.

This day I shot the California Quail at sunrise, with my camera. The soft warm light of the sun rising can be seen. I chose to take the bird picture in a setting of his habitat, instead of going in closer. Thank you for coming....please drive home safely....I hope you enjoyed the show.

Hi Bob,
You have a great capture, but in my opinion
I would chose different POV some don’t be
with the distracting branch on front, and probably
I going for the close up to show this lovely bird
and unchain the power of this shot, a appreciate
your concern regards I don’t post for a few days,
is just work over my head .
TFS, my kinds regards your friend/Lawhill

Hi Bob. What nice marking the Quail has which you have captured well. good colours help by the sun set. good use of the light.a nice POV . very well done TFS. good notes too.
Nick..

This is a terrific shot. The golden light reflects this bird, giving it an almost heavenly appearance. It's my favorite time of morning for shooting. The composition is wonderful and there's an ambience I can't quite describe, but it is a beautiful capture.
