This Great Egret is surveying the area from his perch on a log across a stream.

The Egrets are really a member of the Heron family . The one thing that seperates them to Egrets are those lacey long plumes they acquire during the breeding season. They are called( if my memory serves me correctly ) egrettas , hence the name Egrets. Egrets have a diet of mainly fish caught in open waters. They usually are found in groups unlike the solitary Great Blue Heron.

This was a difficult shot for me because of the light contrast on the white bird, but I really like the pose and the mood to this lending an ethereal art look. I felt it was different from the usual images you see of these lovely birds. I had to use adjustment layers in PS CS to tone down the over exposed areas of the Egret. Hope you like this as much as I do.

Lovely artistic picture Lesley. The mood is great. Smooth and calm. I like the contrast and the way you handled the whites.
That's a coincidence I posted the same bird a few minutes ago...

Excellent shot. The unusual rear view shows an aspect of the bird I've never seen before, despite the many egret shots that are posted on the web. You did very well to keep the whites intact - excellent exposure.

Unusual pose, but it works very well as we're able to see the nice long feathers on the back and you still manage to capture the eye. Very good exposure (white birds are so difficult). Well done & TFS!

Well named Leslie, it does look like a bride. You chose the perfect background for this picture. Well done

Lovely composition. Like how you captured the details of his feathers. The white on green is very beautiful. Would have slightly cropped a bit on the right but it's a minor detail.
Well done.

Excellent picture with a well matched title. Usually I like pictures when you can see the front or side of the motive but here I really like the composition with the back of the bird towards the camera.

It must be so easy to overexposure the bird, but I think you managed to stay on the right side of the line. Great details and colours as well.

Thanks for sharing.

Exquisite capture! Those tail feathers are just beautiful-like raw silk. Whatever you did to adjust this photo worked wonderfully! Well done!
