"Qampu" the Golden silk orb-weaver
Nephila clavipes

Info on the Golden silk orb-weaver

It seems that Qampu is getting bigger and bigger every day. She is approximately 2.5 inches(6.4 cm) in diameter. Her web covers a huge area between three trees. As you can see by the pine needles stuck in the web, one of them is a pine tree. Here she is feasting on a fly or bee for lunch. Orb-weavers construct a labyrinth of multi-dimensional webs. Some speculate that the outer layers are to warn birds away from the main web. I still haven't borrowed a step ladder to get a better shot of her. This was taken standing on a shakey barstool from about 6 feet(1.8 m) away. Who would have guessed a year ago that today I would risk breaking my neck to get a picture of a spider. Well, back to cutting the lawn. I just took a break to get the photo and post it. Ciao, Jim

"Qampu" is Quechua for "spider". Quechua("qheshwa") was the official language of Tawantinsuyu, the Inca Empire.

Cropped, enhanced and resized. No noise reduction because it took away too much detail. Reduced noise photo in workshop.

Hi Jim,
Wonderful shot of the Silk Weaver with its catch. The webs presents a nice effect and good use of flash light here. I like your POV to portray it and the composition. Kudos.

Hello JIm,
Yes it does look as if she's put on some weight around the belly!! I can't get over those hairy bits on the legs - really interesting. Great capture of this spider, nicely in focus showing sharp details and fine colours. I like the soft backround with bits of blue sky too and the diagonal twigs. Well done!
TFS and have a nice weekend, Ulla
