Qampu the Golden silk orb-weaver-revisited
Nephila clavipes

Golden silk orb-weaver

Qampu is such a ham. Every time I bring out the camera she climbs around shaking her web until I photograph her. Not really. It was one of those days when I went out and took, what I thought to be at the time, some fantastic photos. When I up-loaded them, much to my horror, they were awful. I had taken photos of another spider that just moved onto the block and a Great Egret fishing plus a few of Qampu. They turnd out to be an over-exposed, under-exposed, out-of-focus mess. I managed to salvage this one photo of Qampu for posting.

Does your camera show you with "blinkies" where the overexposed parts are? Does it have a histogram? Can you enlarge the image when you play it back on the camera to check sharpness? That is the coolest part about digital photography... you can catch some of those blunders while still in the field and retake the shots. Of course there will still be some surprises.

The angle of the composition is wonderful in this shot. The OE is unfortunate.

Evelynn ; )

Qampu is looking quite chubby these days. She needs to watch that waistline! :)
I did the same thing on my spider photo where Charlotte shed her shell....there was a bit of background over-exposed. I want to build something I can put behind the web..maybe a black cardboard thingie to avoid this. But this is a great shot! Love the detail here. Still I think Charlotte is bigger than Qampu.

Crisp, clear, colorful and VERY unusual patterns on the spider. I normally don;t like spiders but this one looks more charming than scary! Great picture and I really appreciate your sharing it with me and the rest!

Bob

Magnifique macro, les détails sont superbes de même que les couleurs.
Bravo

Hi Jim,
A very nice capture of this spider. Nice details and composition. The web design also looks nice. Thanks a lot for sharing.

I like this effect with the sun behind and almost mirroring the spider's shape. It makes the entire web stand out for us too. Well done.

TFS!
Reid

Methinks the bright light behind her caused a bit of a problem in you other images. Here it gives us a clean pallet against which she stands out well

bonjour jim
le blanc du ciel gene un peu car il est juste derriere l'araignée
mais la profondeur de champ est bonne et j'aime beaucoup les dessin de l'abdomen.
