| [Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
| I caught this part of a flock of wild turkeys traversing this lawn and headed for the woods moments after strutting across a rural road. According to the Maine Dept. of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife, wild turkeys were reintroduced to the state about 20 years ago and -- after being wiped out in the 19th century -- now number in the thousands. For some interesting details, visit the department's Wild Turkey Page. |

Lovely colors, composition and good POV. Lacking a bit in detail, did you crop this down from a much larger image?
I use to live in Pennsylvania and the turkey had been wiped out in my area as well. About 25 - 30 years ago the game commission reintroduced them. By the time I left, 8 years ago, they'd made a successful recovery. I had a flock of about 20 living in my woods behind my cabin and they were a real hoot to watch, especially at night as they settled down to roost. One interesting note, before the turkeys were reintroduced we had a booming pheasant population (an alien species). Once the turkeys made a comeback the pheasant population seemed to drop dramatically... at least we weren't seeing as many as previous.

An intriguing lot of wild turkeys. They are skittish here in the wilderness, although I have captured a few pictures. Yours shows perhaps a more docile attitude on their part and these you have shown are slightly lighter in color than ours. Nice colorings, grouping and composition with some notation.

A flock of turkeys occasionally passes through my backyard, but I never can seem to get a shot this good. Nice job. Gary
