[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
I think the combination of sunlit subjects against dark stormy skies is one of my favorites. The weather was so changeable that it was fun just looking for atmospheric photo ops.

Now that my husband is getting into wildlife photography, there are more times when he has scampered off after some animal. I started to challenge myself to find a photo op where ever I happened to be parked. That is the story behind this shot. Sometimes it pays to just sit still and see what nature brings to you. The light lasted only a few seconds.

Hi Evelyn

I love the way you have captured these burned trees - the sun's rays against the approaching storm create a wonderful contrast.

James

Have you captured the petrified trees by the Painpots - well I suppose you must have!

What a dramatic image, Evelynn.
I just love the juxtaposition of that well-lit foreground of trees and the dark ominous stormy sky.
A lot of tension and foreboding.
An intense composition. : )

La patience est la vertu du photographe comme je le dis souvent ;-)
Ces contrastes sont magnifiques,et le piqué très joli.

Merci pour ce partage avec le petit historique fort sympathique!

Hi Evelynn,
the contrast between light and dark here is very impressive, Your low POV adds impact to this view and demonstrates how a little patience in landscape photography can make all the difference. Are these trees dead or dying?

Hello Evelynn,
I have no problem seeing why you're fascinated with this kind of lighting!
The effect is wonderful, making the dead trees really come out their best...

I love it. Very nice visual of high contrasted area....and perhaps the trees so clear, have more knowledge of this particular area, recorded in their rings. An informational as well as dynamic picture.
Bob

Hi Evelynn,
You know I am always atracted to landscape photos first before I look at your others. I feel the same about these weather conditions as you do. Somehow the colors become so richer and the contrast become perfect. You really captured the feel of the weather in this photo. Something that I think is always difficult to copy on a photo. It looks like this is one of the area still recovering from the fire.
TFS,
Niek

Hi Evelynn,
this is a sight that I have seen in many places and times over the years. The contrast of a dark background with a light foreground is something I never tire of.This capture of yours is an outstanding example of light and dark and I see nothing in your photo that needs improvement.Yellowstone is a place I must someday see as your photos make the place so inviting.Tfs Bob

Hello Evelynn

The dark and ominous backdrop is amazing. The front lit dead trees are beautiful. The big tree comes to life again in your shot...the leader of the scary pack.Almost a Halloween feel to this shot.TFS

Hello Evelynn, what a great light on this shot. The composition is really good, the sharpness is second to none and the contrast between the sky and tress is just breathtaking. Thank you !

bonjour Evelynn

I like it. I can't tell the direction of the light other than to see that it is low and breaking through the horizon to light the trees. The light does indeed light the trees in a way that makes them stand out, but I think it also brings out the spring green color of the grass in a way that contrasts with the muted (and drier) colors in the bg. Those are the elements that seem to make the shot work for me.
Mike
I don't know if it's the background, or some quality of the light, but this bring me back to my trip to Yellowstone (the same month, but a year earlier). Maybe there's just something evocative about the photo? Or maybe this is somewhere up north near Mammoth Hot Springs?

evelynn,

fantastic mood in here!amazing!a very beautiful POV!great colors!

Hi Evelynn,
An excellent display of divided lighting, these make for some really interesting shots and you captured it at its best. :)

Hi Evelynn,
That is also one of my favorites. The light is very beautiful here, so are the colors. Lovely composition and contrast. TFS
Best wishes,

Hi Evelynn,
Very nice and well composed photo. Excellent POV and colors. Very well done.

Didn't you post another great view of this tree that vanished?

TFS
Jim

Hi Evelynn, splendid landscape with wonderful colors, great sky, superb light, very well done, ciao Silvio

Hi Evelynn
I too love the old grey trees against the dark sky, excellent contrast. There are several different species of trees and they all seem to have a different pattern. Down-swept, up-swept and all over the place.
Very balanced and detailed. Well done!
TFS Janice

What a great shot this is, I agree, the warm and cool colours go great together! It always reminds me of those typical fall days when the clouds are always a dark gray, and tend to contrast really nicely with the fall leaves. But a great shot, the details are sharp and the colours go together very nicely!
