[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Lichens are a symbiotic relationship of two or more partners, usually fungus and algae or cyanobacteria. The alga provides food from sunlight. The fungus provides structure, moisture and protection. Very hardy, experiments have been performed where they have been left out in space for two weeks with no adverse affect.

I think they really create interesting structures. Who knows what the ant was up to. :-)

What a super close-up shot of Lichens especailly the ant so huge with perfect clarity, you can almost touch it with hand!

I have yet all these years to understand lichen. Perhaps it would be a whole 4 credit hour course some day if not already. A thought provoking picture...what is life?

Hi Reid,
I was just loking through your shots and this one caught my eye,being the differentest :)
Lichen aren't always easy subjects to shoot with their wonky contours and bright reflective surfaces,so,understandably there are OOF and OE patches,but you've got great clarity on the ant which is good.
I think I see another ant towards the top right hand corner too.
Interesting shot.
