[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This (what I thought was a) wasp was resting on the muscadine vines. The antennae are really unusual. Blue and elongated. Actually, I'm not even sure it's a wasp. Maybe it could even be a moth?

cataclysta advises that it actually is a moth. Sesiidae. Called a clearwing moth in the US and is similar to the Bee-Hawk moth in the UK. Wikipedia has a writeup on them.

Thanks to cataclysta for the ID!!

Hope you enjoy.
Reid

Hello Reid,
Krzysztof is right in saying that this is a Clearwing moth, not to be confused with some hummingbird hawkmoths that look like bumblebees. It is not the same a sthe European Bee hawk-moth.
These are sometimes called Borers, because the larvae feed on the wood of various species of trees. I think this one may be the Ash Borer but I'm not sure.
Anyway this is a great macro of good technical quality with nice sharpness, details and colours.
Well done and TFS!
Ivan

Hello Reid,
Interesting posting. Amazing the world of insects, where wasps become moths or the other way around.Well seen.
Anne

Hi Mr. Reid,
Yes it is a wasp but some sort of bee wasp. Sorry I don't know its ID. But the capture is excellent with good details and composition. Thanks a lot for sharing.

Sincerely
HP
