The cicada knocked a large hole in the web. After securing the cicada, the spider is now doing some web repair. She held different strands with each leg and somehow pulled them back together and quickly sealed them. You can see some leg movement.
This is 1/60 @ 5.6 which is the best the 300mm lens can do. It's a Canon EF 75 - 300mm which I have on trial. No IS, etc. But 300mm is addictive. :-)
Hope you're having a great weekend!

Hi Reid,
Nicely done capturing the spider with it's prey and repairing the damage done. Amazing, the brain function to control 8 arms/legs. It is probably one happy spider, if it likes cicada. Fine detail and color. Very well composed.

Yes! I had forgotten that many times this process of wrapping the catch does harm to the web. It is all coming back now. A great addition to the particular cycle of catching, wrapping and repairing. Nicely done Reid. Have a Zen Day!

Hello Reid,
Must catch up with your spider shots. I like this one for the behavior of the spider as it repairs its web after the cicada damaged it when it got caught. Here you clearly show how the spider gathers up the loose web strands.
Great shot with fine lighting, sharpness and colors and well composed to show us the whole scene.
TFS,
Ivan
