Hello Reid,
I do not know on butterflies. I must to You however say that many times in my own garden I saw night butterflies drinking the nectar from flowers similarly as humming-birds. I never saw such butterflies during the day, and at the earliest at the close of the day. Beautiful picture, the excellent shot. You caught him while hanging over a bottle the flower he treats himself with surely sweet nectar.

what a specimen you've caught here! Good low POV and well composed with the pink flowers down the left hand side of the frame. Nice bright light too.

You certainly have a Reids corner of unusal captures. This one will keep some guessing for a while I think. It sure is a good enough picture for completion in ID. The colors are fascinating. The apparent movement of wings is a nice touch.
