I didn't feel well but I knew I needed to go outside and get some air so I grabbed the camera and took a walk. This beauty was the first one I met. She or He danced around in the morning glories as though wanting to be photographed. For some reason, this particular flower really must have tasted great because Giant Swallowtail Friend of Mine crawled halfway down inside.

The following is from Iowa State Extension News Release
The giant swallowtail, Papilio (Heraclides) cresphontes, is a member of the family Papilionidae. The genus and species names for this insect are derived from Greek mythology; Cresphonte is one of the Heraclids, or people who claimed to be descendents of Hercules. Swallowtails occur throughout the world, and there are about 500 to 600 species. There are several species of swallowtails native to the United States, and the giant swallowtail is one.

It does look like it's enjoying its meal ;)
Lovely capture of this striking butterfly.
+++ Excellent sharpness especially around the head or what's viewable of it. Good detail and definition. Saturated colours and nice lighting.
--- DOF may be a bit shallow.
A gorgeous shot anyhow.
Well done,
Joe

Very beautiful! Excellent composition. Amazing how we are sometimes led to real gems by causes that go beyond our understanding. Stepping out to get some air because of not feeling well and capturing a masterpiece in the process...;-)

haha, this is amazing, angelina! :-) what a capture - the pretty swallowtail almost inside the beautiful flower.
the antennae and legs sticking out are so cool.
superb composition and pov with nice colors and good sharpness.
one techninal thing i noticed - 1/4000 and f4.5? did you want to catch him in flight?
well done & take care, thor.

Angelina...you are an ace at butterfly photography. All these are so beautiful to see. It is talented of you to always maintain such good points of view, and pay attention to the surroundings of them.
Superb.
Just seeing his head so buried in the bloom, I imagine you could have tickled him and he would not have noticed.

Hi Angelina

A lovely action shot - it looks like (to use an English expression) it is stuffing its face! Nice isolation from BG and good colours.

James

Hi Angelina,
I think this giant is very fond of this flower. Very nicely captured although it seems that the butterfly is in air and not settled. Excellent details and composition. Thanks a lot for sharing.

Hello Angy,
I like the way this Swallowtail buries itself in the flower to get at the nectar, forcing the antennae to bend back and the legs to splay out. You have also caught this moment in fine lighting shining through the wings.
Great shot!
TFS and have a good weekend, even though you have to continue working on the farm.
Ivan

Hi Angy,
Very much like your last post, but I prefer this for the POV and frame filling subject. You've stopped the wings perfectly at 1/4000th. Great detail and color, Great catch!
Have a nice weekend,
Howard

Hi Angelina.
I am very pleased with your visit. I am not quite well now (After business trip I have caught a cold and have not recovered finally yet.) Your comments is nice medicine.

Your colourful shot is wonderful. Plant, flower, butterfly and surroundings are very impressive. POV is brilliant as well as framing of the nice scene. Bokeh is stunning. Bravo and kind regards.
Alexei.
