[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This is another shot of the elk in the Mammoth Hot Springs area that I posted yesterday. This is a much better shot of his body, but unfortunately he had sat down. I considered sending my daughter to prod him to try to get him to stand up, but the Park Ranger was nearby and didn't look like he'd be OK with that.

Elk are amazingly active in their "rut" season in the fall, and are easy to see, especially in the national parks like Yellowstone, Rocky Mountain, or Banff in Canada. The bugling sound they make is also very interesting.

A magnificent stag in an interesting and unusual pose, Mike.
Nice profile view of the face, with a fantastic POV of the rack of antlers.
The rich brown fur looks so good against the green grass.

Hi Mike,

A good POV of the elk relaxing in the field, the photo has a good composition, sharpness and nice colors. Thanks for sharing.

Hi Mike,
That is one impressive bull elk. He looks pretty disintrested in everything at this point. Great colors and sharp detail . Nice shot.

Oh Mike... those elk are ALWAYS there at Mammoth or not far away. They probably suffer from "flash burn" they are so often photographed. They seem to enjoy eating the green grass. Looks like he has eaten a bit too much. As tame as they seem I wouldn't trust any elk during the rut. I think more than the ranger might have been upset by being "prodded" : )

You did manage to get a good shot without buildings and people in the frame. It is a nice sharp, well exposed image with good color.

Hello Mike,
This fine guy looks like a happy fellow!
There are no elk around my place, but I guess they are not that different from deer...
The fine angle of light makes the snimal stand out well, great colours and details in the fur coat!
Greetings,
Pablo -

I don't think prodding him would have been a good idea! If you know how to lip-read, you would be able to see that from his expression! In fact I think he is just saying something very nasty!
Cheers
Otto
