[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This is a photograph of a female passage redtail hawk. Passage means juvenile, while haggard means adult. Females are always bigger than the males, that's how I was able to tell she was a female. She's a gorgeous big bird. And, the young passage don't have their red tails yet (their tails are still brown) and their chest is a lot more white, than the tan that it turns when they become haggards. She's about 3 to 4 months old from looks. I hope you enjoy the shot as much as I enjoyed taking it! :-)

The focal length for this shot was set at 105mm while the ISO was 100.

Hi Steph,
Nicely composed closeup of this Hawk
I like how you made the eye the focal point
From my viewpoint it could be improved with a bit more contrast and sharpening.
I think a greater DOF would also have been better to focus the foreground shoulder more. A highter ISO would give you more leeway to close down your aperture for greater DOF and keep your exp.time reasonable
I did 2 WS to see if more PS processing would help improve this image.

Good portrait of this hawk. I love the sharpness of the beak. Like Richard, I think with a little contrast and sharpening to make a good portrait great. I love the eye as the center. The exposure is good and so is the composition. Nicely done.

I think it's a very interesting point of view having the eyes and beak in focus and the rest of her head gently out of focus. Contrast and sharpness definitely helped in the post-processing workshop. I really like how serene she looks -- and the upturned corners of her mouth give her a look of being wise for her age. Nice shot, Steph.
