Hello Bob,
Congratulations on your 200th post! We look forward to many more from you. (this is not greed but pure hedonism!)
Nice original post on pine resin with excellent technical qualities and excellent lighting and composition.
Nice informative note. Many of our neighbors burn pine wood in the wrong way and the smoke does not help people with sensitive lungs.
I read somewhere that pine resin was used as chewing gum by stone age people.
We can find bits of amber along our coast: the Baltic is known for it.
TFS and have a great weekend,
Ivan

Hello Bob
Very well focused with sharp details. This "knotty" photo is a treat to peruse on the internet.
I love the rich colours and excellent texture in the bark.
The side lighting illuminates the bark well and creates interesting contrasts.
The POV is well chosen and the DOF is very good.
Congratulations on 200 posts and here is to many, many more.

Hello Bob
Well lets look at the picture first..To many including me this could just be an uninteresting picture of a tree which has had a branch removed years previously and the bark has overgrown it as the tree ages and grows..and it leaks a little sap....
BUT then theres a good note..which is not just any note but a note that we can all learn from about what the picture is about..and as such its all put into context and is a tool for learning.
And now many congratulations on your 200th Post..posts and points do mean a lot especially when each post is a lesson.
All the Best to you and yours Bob

Hi Bob,
200 already eh? And not one of them a dud, pretty impressive i'd say. You celebrate in typically unique style and with a subject close to my heart. I have a small lump of Amber myself, with a few tiny insects trapped inside and it never ceases to amaze me when i look at it. I like this shot of Amber in it's infancy. Great detail and i like the central composition alot too, well done.

Hi Bob, I like the richness of textures, the beauty of the crust and the monochrome-like colours in this photo and I appreciate particularly to have learned many things today: what is pinesap (I thought it was called pine resin ;0), how to get rid of it, how to make a fire with bark and pinesap. Most of all, I did not know that amber was created out of sap, neither that copal was coming from sap. Smells good to me. Thank you very much for sharing your photos and your thoughts,
Francine

Hello Bob,
Intresting notes!
Your picture is unusual and very well done. The diagonal light gives a beautiful contrast on tree. It's a good idea to post some unique compositions!
Thanks for sharing and have a good week! D'un ami du Québec!
