| This is a picture of a beautiful Great Horned Owl! The Great Horned Owl is the largest owl in Ohio. I have read that the Great Horned Owl has adapted well to humans moving into their territory. I have also read that they are not picky eaters and that they eat anything from snakes to skunks! The naturalist that I spoke to said that the baby Great Horned Owls are very smart and that when they learn to fly and fall to the ground that they use their beak and talons to climb back up the tree to their nest. These owls nest in abandoned nests from other birds. They can grow to as tall as 2 feet; however most weigh only 8 pounds! This beautiful bird has a broken right wing; however he's been given a great home and he is a great ambassador to teach children about our native birds. I really loved this shot because it looks like he's smiling just for me! All I've done to this picture is crop it - I hope you enjoy! |

Hello Traci,
Nice capture of the Owl. The excellent focusing on the eyes grabs my attention and makes me want to stare back. Nicely done!
