Hello Kathy
This a great picture and great focusing considering the frost ridden branches in front of the bird...as for feeding them I think they need your help because thier natural diet will be very scarce in these freezing conditions...They and you benefit!

I love the way all the colors in your photo tone with each other and unify the image. It is quite a lovely composition. I like it a lot. Beautiful work.... through double glass!!!!!!

Hi Kathy,
A slight correction on the ID. Yes, it is Carpodacus. No, not Purple Finch. You can separate the purpureus from the mexicanus (which this is, House Finch)by observation of this bird possessing a convex culmen (culmen = the upper edge seen on profile of the upper mandible), and by the heavy streaking of the flanks (much less or absent in the male Purples). Also, this is an adult male bird - the females do not have all of this reddishness on the head and breast.

very pretty scene and great composition. It amazes me how such a small bird can cope with such cold. Nice color and DOF.

Hello Kathy
A lovely composition. This little finch looks so lonely and cold in amongst the ice.
The shot is very artistic, and the subtle colours and all the frost are excellent.
I like the vertical look.
Very good use of lighting.

Hello Kathy, well done on this Finch, it's not the Purple finch it's a male House finch (Carpodacus mexicanus)the Purple finch has no dark markings on the breast. The composition and pose of the bird are great, the light and exposure too. Very nice surroundings ! Thanks,
Mario
