Echinocereus reichenbachii
(Lace Hedgehog)
(Echinocereus is latin for hedgehog.)
Because the spine clusters are lined up in rows (or in layman terms - the stickers are neatly arranged) the cactus has a 'lacy' appearance.
This is one of the shorter varieties of cactus, standing only 5-50 cm tall.
I got this shot on the way home from work. I stopped on a relatively busy highway and climbed up a rattlesnake ridden embankment to take this baby's photo. The color is a little harsh because the cliff faced west and the evening sun was shining directly on the flowers. |

Beautiful. The light perhaps a shade too harsh, but those are not easy shots to capture, with such colours to account for.
It is an Echinocereus, I guess : reichenbachii ? pectinatus? or ? Can you show us the whole plant ?
Bela foto. Bom foco no centro da flor. Lindo contrastre de cores. Gostei muito. Parabéns.
You're nuts climbing up a rattlesnake infested slope to get a pic, but this one was worth it! Beautiful capture with wonderful, vivid color. TFS, Ang!
