[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
It's the noise of movements locked in the static ice, deep vibrations and crystalline cracks, accentuated by echo of natural events.

Fences have some purpose. This one, to me, has none. It supposedly delineates the political boundary of one government agency from another, yet if one would were to measure it in its entire length it would be more than 200 miles long. The separation is between a wildlife refuge and a city. Beyond the purpose of this fence is the change. From where I took this I can only see as far as the picture. My fervent wish would to be able to go further and I have said so to my wife. She simply looked at me with a warm smile. She knows I cannot go more than 100 feet in this without much help. And yet somehow this leaves a longing and no relief. I really want to go into the wildlife refuge. Already I have seen this frozen pond and the fallen tree it holds. The tree must certainly be horizontal as all of its branches come upwards towards the sky...it is as if it fell in one mighty blast of wind, unexpectedly but unfeeling as its soul were already dead.....and now remains are frozen until spring....

There are so many miles to go in one direction...all of it cold and much of it treed with these Lodgepole Pine...but simply walking along and following a beat in rhythm with my feet...as if hearing some melody in my head...perhaps a Celtic harp...or maybe even some hip-hop to remind me of youth...but suffice it to say I did not and only can dream...This is the semi-wilderness for me now...from the edge of it looking in. I know what lies in there..and with a good backpack and supplies there was a time when I could last in there for weeks without ever coming inside...I think it is good we have memories...and a heart in which to store them. Our maker was thoughtful...

Perhaps Robert Frost had a different way of thinking
as per the supposed coming of Global warming when
he wrote:

"Some say the world will end in fire, Some say in ice.
From what I've tasted of desire I hold with those who favour fire.
But if it had to perish twice, I think I know enough of hate
To say that for destruction ice Is also great
And would suffice."

Hi Bob!

Just superb! Both, text (especially the beginning!) and the picture. B&W here is perfect, it restitutes the atmosphere very well. It also creates an apparently contradictory effect of warmth. I say apparently, because in fact it isn't. The world of ice and snow can be very warm. Here's another proof!

Kind regards

Markus

Hi Bob,
this almost looks like a film set, but only because everything is laid out so so well for us to see, you chose a great POV! The B & W works well again here, and the frame is a perfect choice. I'm hoping to get out into my nearest 'wilderness' at the beginning of spring, The Scottish Highlands.

Hi Bob,

When I looked at the picture and started reading your notes I thought - Robert Frost. And sure enough, there he was towards the end of your text. This picture is just perfect in black and white.

Hi Bob, I don't know how you do it and that's your mystery for us to enjoy. You just do it splendidly! Everything here is laid smoothly, with curves and tranquility, as if resting peacefully. You make me love B&W, look at all those contrasts and yet perfect exposure. Thank you so much, and for the notes, always a pleasure to read,

Francine

Nice winter scene. Good note too. I really like the first and last paragraph. I bet this pond would be great for wildlife in the spring.

Hello Bob,

Those twigs are like hands calling for help ... or maybe they are just waiting to pull you in! Nature is not easy to predict! But, I can see why you want to venture in there, even if only to make your mark in the virgin snow!
Superb notes to add another dimension to your photograph!

Kind regards,
Bev :-)
Many thanks for your warm comments on 'Feathery winter coat'.

Mr Bob

What a super shot, I almost expect to see a small lady trudge past with the wood for her evening fire. Emotionally charged and full of depth as usual.

Sterling work that man.

Nick..

PS I dont work all the time I am just on call.

Hello Bob,
Even though it is frozen, this small but wild glade warms the heart and sends our thoughts soaring to what may be hidden just beyond our sight, and to what it shall lend to our heart's desire?
Simple, but yet complex is this image! A Tale of Two Thoughts...

Hi Bob,

By cutting all the trees in half on your images, it adds a stronger atmosphere to your shot. There is no real focus to look at and this is the beauty of it because me eyes go in every directions to discover something new in your picture. Sometimes, we say too busy, but not in this one. Well done!

Lise

Magnifique encore un beau paysage en noir et blanc cela est encore plus grandiose.
Merci
Marie

Serene and beautiful. Like sepia for processing this image.

Excelente atmósfera la que has creado con los tonos que has escogido para publicar este trabajo.
Un lugar sobrecogedor...
Saludos, JL.

Hi Bob,
very original capture!
There's a ghostly light which is enhanced by the B+W medium.
Fabulous composition and POV.
Lots of interest throughout the photo from the old fence to the blackened branch sticking out of the frozen water.
Great notes also.
Well done,
Joe

Hi Bob

Sorry missed this one. A really atmospheric shot and interesting note. I think B&W works really well here.

James

Namastay Bob,
A beautiful BW capture of the woods. Very well composed and although it is in BW but watching thoughtfully you can see colors and the yellow Sunrays reflect over the ground. Well thought. Thanks a lot for sharing.

Sincerely
Haraprasan

Again that dreamlike feel to your photo.
Great shot - is it b&w or sepia? Or maybe just the sepia feel. I dunno but I like it.

Hi Bob,
Oh a masterpiece for sure, I love the woods just as much as you love the Great Lakes, the smell of the pines and the smell of the freshly fallen snow, the black and white is perfect it really indeed is a beautiful photo. TFS

Hi Bob,

Stunning picture - I do like your monotones - and a great note too. The refuge has an almost spiritual quality, and I get the feeling that this is how you see it. You may only be able to go 100ft or so, but at least you get to see 100ft of this amazing place and have the sence to see and appreciate it. For that at least, you must be grateful.

Mike
