[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
I heard this female Nuttall's Woodpecker drilling on this tree and was able to capture the effects of her drilling in the form of the particles of wood flying about her head. She must really have wanted that bug! This is probably going to post with a lot of noise, but hopefully you'll get to see what I mean. (I did a workshop after Nick's suggestion to use Neat Image. I think it helped a lot -- take a look!)

So as not to miss the shot, I was shooting on automatic settings - no time to adjust anything. The rest is just my beginner's level photoshop cropping and sharpening. Not really looking for points - I just think it's cool how tough their little beaks are. Enjoy!!

Hi Penny. I wondered what all the white was now i know . you have done well with the lens . good detail and colours. yes there is some noise have you tried Neat Image its a free down load . well done TFS.
Nick..

Hi Penny,

I like this picture of the hammering woodpecker a lot. The grainy background could maybe be improved in PS by use of "Magnetic lasso" to delimit the background and "Smart blur" to smoothen it. Thanks for presenting the picture.
My best regards
Dietrich

Hello Penny,

Very well perched on the signature view of woodpecker. Clear background makes this bird stands out. Good details and plumage.

Regards,
Jusni

Hi Nelly, I like your pictures and your notes, it's always interesting. And there is a big difference between the Neat Image and the first picture you posted. It is worth to post and it is worth to give you points on it, you know. I really like the littles plash of woods that the light captures, we even see the hole the woodpecker is drilling. It is sharp and well seen, thanks,

francine
